The Inupiaq and the St. Lawrence Island Yupik peoples continue to live in the northern interior and northwest coastal areas of Alaska. Inupiaq, meaning "real or genuine person," is often spelled Iñupiaq, particularly in the northern dialects of the Alaskan Inupiaq language.
