Try out different early literacy, language, and math toys to help prepare preschoolers for Kindergarten while having fun at the same time. Stay and play, meet some new families, and check out some books.

The Center for Safe Alaskans offers a free computer-based driving tool to test teen's (aged 13+) ability to handle road hazards. Drivers see right away how they did and how they compare to other drivers. They'll get tips to learn safe driving skills through short videos.
Driving test takes approx. 20 minutes.

I Read What I Want Book Club is for those who love reading but don’t want to be tied down. Anyone who wants to talk books can come in and give reviews for whatever they are reading to the group. Meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month in Loussac Library's Raven room (3rd floor).

Ready to race? Spend the afternoon playing high-speed favorites from the library’s gaming collection! Try Mario Kart 8 on Nintendo Switch, Rocket League, and Need for Speed: Heat on Xbox. Compete with friends, test your skills, or just enjoy casual gaming fun.
Games and equipment will be provided for use during the program. Feel free to bring your own Nintendo Switch, board games, or card games as well.

We're teaming up with People Mover to offer storytime on the bus! Read the book, sing the song, and take a short ride. There will be three opportunities to ride. Start times are: 11:00am, 11:30am, and 12:00pm. Families will meet in the Atrium and the bus loads in front of the main entrance of the Loussac Library.
Please note: We anticipate high interest for the program. The bus can accommodate approximately 40 riders per storytime, so arrive early and enjoy activities in the Atrium while you wait your turn to ride the bus.

Sessions with the goats are limited and first-come, first serve; please see staff for a "boarding group" and wait for your turn. We anticipate these events will be very popular. We will do our best to accommodate all attendees but we may need to turn away participants due to time restrictions. Be prepared for long wait times. Please follow all library and program staff instructions for the safety of the participants and the goats.

PAWSitive Reading is a special program designed to provide young children (Kindergarten-4th grade) with a stress-free environment to practice their reading. Therapy dogs are patient listeners for new and struggling readers. Children who participate learn to associate reading with a positive experience and build confidence while practicing reading.

Learn about making and trading Artist Trading Cards-- an easy way to express yourself and build up an original art collection. Suggested for ages 10+, but everyone's welcome.
Meet at Chanshtnu-Muldoon Park at the picnic pavilion to tie-dye! All families are welcome.
What to expect: we will bring a limited supply of plain bandanas to tie-dye, or bring any 100% cotton cotton garment of your own. Dye is permanent on cloth, so wear clothes that can get stained. Dye will temporarily stain skin. We will provide care instructions and a plastic bag for any tie-dye item you produce.
Ability level: Anyone is welcome to try tie-dye. To succeed, this activity requires following multi-step directions and some dexterity to work with rubber bands and squirt bottles. We recommend that children bring a caregiver to help and supervise.
Location: this is an outdoor program at Chanshtnu-Muldoon Park, located at the picnic shelter near the lower playground. If you walk south across the library's parking lot, you'll arrive in about one block. There is parking for both cars and bikes adjacent to the picnic shelter. Paths to the area are completely paved, mostly even, and have convenient curb cuts. There is a porta-potty on site and some shade/cover provided by the picnic shelter.
Note: We will run this program rain or shine, but if weather is truly a hazard, we will cancel and move inside the library for a coloring activity. Call 907-343-4032 to double check or with other questions about this program.

Come meet and pet goats from The Tiny Home(stead), a family farm in Chugiak, and learn about what it takes to raise animals and run a farm in Alaska.
We'll meet on the lawn, but if the weather outside is unsafe for the goats, we'll meet in Community Room.

Color A Smile is a nonprofit organization that distributes cheerful drawings to senior citizens, our troops overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. Every month they mail thousands of new drawings to the recipients on their mailing list. Since 1990, Color A Smile has given out millions of cheerful drawings. That’s a lot of smiles!

To help kids (and their grownups) prepare for that first school bus ride, Anchorage Public Library is hosting a My First School Bus event. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students will have a chance to practice getting on and off a real school bus while they learn about school bus safety with the Anchorage School District.
Families will meet in the Atrium on the first floor before participating in both an information session and short storytime in the Wilda Marston Theatre and bus boarding practice. Only children will be allowed to board the bus, which loads in front of the main entrance of the Loussac Library. The school bus will remain stationary during the entire event.
Please note: We anticipate high interest for the program. The bus can accommodate approximately 80 children during the boarding portion. Plan to arrive on time and follow library staff instructions so that everyone has a chance to participate in both the informational and bus boarding sessions.
The People Mover Travel Trainer will teach you how to:
- Read Transit maps and schedules
- Access & customize transit-related apps
- Set up mTicket for Half Fare discounts
- Bike rack training and more
After classroom training, the group will ride Route 25 to the Downtown Transit Center and return on Route 85 to the library with the Travel Trainer.

PAWSitive Reading is a special program designed to provide young children (Kindergarten-4th grade) with a stress-free environment to practice their reading. recurring gatherings to teach you how to:
